Well, I'm just trying to figure out what's the reason?
I'm not being rude or disrespectful if I'm coming across like that, it's just I'm curious. I'm open to buying whatever year offers the best, but I'm just curious why you say 09?

lol no of course not xD. But it's just better to have the youngest model possible. 2009 has a slightly better interior than the 2008 from what I remember.

welcome , tbh with your current price range u will be looking at an very early 08 (MY08) and 09 will be clearly out of your price range unless it has very very high kms

the difference between the two are as follows

the 08 has - electronic stability control - the 09 does not

the 09 has - AUX cables and mounts , dynamic stability control , chrome interior highlights , factory option of 16 inch alloy wheels

this is my reference so u can check it out yourself http://www.redbook.com.au/cars/used/compare-details

thats the difference but as i said about u will be very lucky to find a (my 09) late 2008/09 model in your price bracket
1998 MR lancer
2009 CJ lancer sportback
2011 Renault Sport RS250 Trophee Cup
2000 Tommi Makenin Evolution 6.5

I can't remember the exact time they brought in capped price servicing, but some of the newer models will have it still left over. Also, the newer model ES came out with Bluetooth and radio controls on the steering wheel and map lights (the ones at the front) check these points though

I have a 2008 ES and it did not come out with the map lights, Bluetooth, audio controls etc
I guess it comes down to personal preference- you may not want or need these features.
PRESENT: 2015 Audi S3

PAST:2009 Lancer ES called Lancee...

I know everyone says "use a variety like gumtree and tradingpost"
