I put a second follow up comment on their page (below) and just checked, it's still their. Also the Caloundra manager contacted me via email for another face to face meeting, but I sent a return and told him I have it booked in Friday in Maroochy.

I have spoken to the Caloundra sales manager last week, he was unwilling to talk my complaints about the vibrations seriously saying the car was fine after they fitted the new tires. I went out on part of the Bruce Hwy that has a 110 limit the following day and it was not fixed, the vibrations were less but not gone and still very noticeable when sitting at those speeds using cruise control. And using the GPS to verify the speed was 110km/h and not 105 as the tires are slightly smaller being 225/40 and not 215/45. So at 100km/h on the speedo you are actually doing only 95, doesn't seem like much but it makes a difference when the vibrations only come in at a true 100km/h or above. I would like to deal with Maroochydore from now on.

Re above - I think one issue is because the car have 225/40 on it (like many over VRX owners) it runs about 5% slow meaning 110 is about 105 on the GPS and 100 is more like 95 so no vibrations.

Are 215/45 tires for the 18" really a lot cheaper than 225/40?

All cars speedometer read 5% high - saves you getting speeding tickets and if they read the other way, you could potentially sue the manufacturer if you get booked. It's normal...

Oh, and don't 100% trust the GPS either, although they are more accurate than your speedo in most circumstances.

But the 225/40 is smaller by a few more percent. I don't trust the GPS all the time but it is good for HWY speeds when setting the cruise control, then fine tuning it 1 or 2 km under the limit, just to make sure.

Hey if I get a fine I can just sue Garmin. ;)

I have used the same GPS in an Issue truck and it runs pretty much spot on the GPS speed, maybe even 1 or 2 k over at 90... it can't go much faster than that LOL

Okay minor update - went and saw Cricks Maroochy this morning about the wheel nuts, took off the center cover and showed the service manager so they will take care of that tomorrow.

He also agreed the next step in sorting the vibrations is to borrow some wheels off another CJ, even if they are 16" steelies and see if the issue persists. So maybe they will do that tomorrow, assuming they can get that stuck wheel nut off the front left. LOL

Also just wondering, when should I remove 'New Member' off the thread title or is it done automatically after a set time?

Okay at Cricks now, using their wifi. Checked the boot diamond badge price, $43. Which is not bad when you look at some off the ones on eBay. Waiting on news about the vibrations.

So got back from Cricks.

Good new is they sorted the wheel studs/nuts issue, replacing some of them. Haven't had time to take the covers off and see what they did yet, will in the morning.

Bad news is the vibrations are still there and if anything they are worse, but it seems to go in cycles, good for a few minutes them bad. I know it's not the road surface but does also vary depending on the wheel angle. I'm wondering if it's an alignment issue? They checked the hubs and stuff and didn't find any problems. They didn't get time to chuck on another set of wheels to see if the problem persists. Not sure what to do next?

Guess I'll have to call them (again) and book the car in (again) to resolve this, or should I get someone else to look at it before spending money on other wheels when they problem might be in the car?

Really??!! you need to ask that question? After countless times of being "advised" to take it somewhere else... of being told quite possibly not the wheels or tyres but something else... I mean do you even read the replies that you get and the help that people are trying to give you?

Sorry I give up, either this is an super epic troll or you're super epic docile and not listening to anything anyone is trying to tell you to help. Drive it into a river and that'll fix it....

I'm listening and not trolling, I do think I've given them enough chances to fix it, but I don't see why I should have to spend my money to fix the problem on a car I've owned just a few weeks. To their credit Cricks didn't charge for todays work but really why should that as someone at Cricks screwed up the studs in the first place.

BTW they took about 3 hours to just take it for a short test drive, I checked the dash cam, they maybe went to 100 but did agree there is a problem, they just can't find what was causing it.

I still want to get some VRX wheels and have some lined up but it might take a few weeks to get them fitted even if I use the current tires.

Okay so an update, Cricks put some other VRX wheels on my car today and the vibrations vanished... so they have offered to pay $180 per wheel through JAX to get some new ones.

KAX doesn't list prices on it's website but Beaurepaires does so as a guide I'm thinking of this.

5 spoke Kobia from King Wheels

But I'm liking Strada from CSA with it's 7 spoke design.

I would love these from OZ Racing but they are way out of my price range right now.

I have noticed not many make a 7" wide wheel, most are either 7.5 or 8".

I'm not sure is being wider is one of the reasons for the vibrations?

Nope should have nothing to do with it, the only time you might have issues is if they don't clear the brakes or back spacing issues maybe
Went from this to that

No issues and people do it all the time

So went to JAX placed an order for the Strada from CSA will cost me just $35 per wheel after Cricks pays their part.

They look good for the money even though there are plenty of others I liked but were out of my price range. Just hope this works and it's smooth driving from now on. Planing a day trip to Hervey Bay in the coming weeks for my dad.

BTW the Strada are 7.5" wide.[/img]
