Hey, possible new lancer buyer

Postby JDM_Lancer » Mon Nov 09, 2009 1:27 pm

Hey guys,

just introducing myself, obviously im new on here so hi everyone.. Im in the market for a new car, still on my P's and im looking at a VR lancer since as ive been told from the dealer the ES does not come in a MY10 model, the base is now a VR? not sure if thats true or not.
I am thinking of buying a white with a special kit that sort of a mix between evo & street, (hope no one says "well then just buy an evo!", reason is 1. dont have that much money, 2. P's not allowed turbos) and as ive seen & heard a bog standard VR is 22 drive away and with this kit & lowering springs they want 24 for it.. Is this a good price for really an add on kit that is really just screw on bits and lowing springs for an extra $2g? Ive got big plans for it if i can find the right places and right websites to buy mods for it but im not sure if i should go that VR RSV model or just buy and run & get my own kit.. whats peoples thoughts on it.. thanks guys and girls..

Hey & welcome!
I also drive a VR (09 model), I'm not sure if the ES is MY10, I think it should be.. perhaps the RX would be an alternative though.

is the extra $2k from the dealer? their stuff is usually very expensive.

ES sure is available as an MY10, so whatever dealer told you that has no idea.... There is a limited edition RX option availabel at the moment that has some extras like alloys and rear spoiler. Maybe they are telling you there's no MY10 ES to get you to buy the more exxy RX or VR.

What is RSV? R_______ Special Vehicles? Sounds like a dealer fit bodykit and suspension change. A few guys here have bought those over the years. It would be unusual if they tricked up a VR with the bodykit etc. Make sure you get a VR if that's what you're paying for. $22,000 for a VR driveaway seems very very cheap (ie. TOO CHEAP), esp. if it's an MY10.

Ye thats what i thought.. I was like i highly doubt they have gotten rid of the ES and its now just the RX as the standard base model..

Yes the RSV model is like the dealers kit & suspension.. But i was wondering if it was worth it for the extra money or not or just source the kit from somewhere and do it myself and buy an es..

Most likely it is MY09 stock. And MY09 stock that has been stuck on their yard for a while. I got my MY09 VR sportsback manual for $22.5k. It was too cheap for me to resist :P

I believe the MY09 VR models are still advertised at $24,990 driveaway. Unless you need those extras like the airbags, alloys, spoiler, sideskirts, auto this and that, the base ES should be fine. In fact, if you go the base ES you should have more money to do it up - but beware the insurance.

I had assumed he was looking at an MY10 VR as that was mentioned in the post.

But yeah, an older stock one would be getting cheaper by the day I guess....

Hi there. I have an RX myself with CVT. As others have said there is an ES in the M10 so yeah, dealer was BS'ing. There are some easy ways to spot an M10 over and 09. From the outside walk around back, if it's an 09 ES or VR it'll have red taillights. If it's an M10 it'll have the Black ones from the VRX. The factory alloys are different too. 09 VR's have a five spoke, as do ES's as an option. The M10's have a ten spoke that's a variation of the VRX rims. Look up my car in the members gallery, the pic there shows the M10 alloys.

If you have a few more thousands there, I suggest starting at a VR-X so you get the 2.4. Manual should be the choice if you're performance oriented as the CVT may not be able to handle much more power.

When are you off the restriction anyway? Ralliart is the way to go if you like an everyday ride with great oomph at the lights (obeying the law of course).

Im just after my next car and a 2L should be fine for me, the only difference i think (id like anyone to correct me coz this is just my instict) is that the 2.4 would have a bit more torque compared with the 2L.. Its the same thing with the EJ's out of subaru's.. the EJ20 which is a 2L pretty much the same as the EJ25 which is a 2.5L its just got more torque than the EJ20.. and as for performance, id only be putting a muffler on it to make it loud then custom pod set up with stainless piping and new suspension.. Other than that itll just be all visual with kit, the CF re trim inside, rims.. Thats probs bout it..
