Real first name: James
Location: Adelaide

Model: 2010 SX
Colour: Black

General interests: Cars, computers, electronics

Current mods: VRX spoiler (fitted it a few days ago)
Planned mods: Aftermarket head unit, new wheels (I like the look of the VRX wheels), reverse camera, exhaust system, window tint, and that's about it, not planning to spend too much on mods.

How you found out about ClubCJ: Google, from being a noob and searching up how to do certain things to my car.

Also could someone please tell me what I require apart from the headunit and reverse camera, to get the two working. Another thing, I like using Bluetooth to stream my music from my phone, would I need to get a head unit with Bluetooth or would I be able to use the stock Bluetooth already in the car? Last thing, I also like using the steering wheel controls what would I need to get them working?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome! :D

Where abouts in Adelaide you from? :)

As for the Bluetooth music streaming you will need an aftermarket head unit to stream music, only later model CJ's have Bluetooth streaming from factory! Mine is a 2012 (MY13) and has Bluetooth streaming! As for steering wheel controls i believe you need some sort of adapter to use the controls with aftermarket headunits!

Heya James
Welcome to the club!

There's quite a few SA members who have changed their head units. It's always good to come out to a meet/cruise to chat and check out all the mods each has done to their car.
Our next meet/cruise is on Sunday 29th November. Check out the SA section for details :)

I use to do autoelectrics/car installs. You'll depending on the hesdunit need a facia kit, a Bluetooth and reversing camera compatible headunit and the reversing camera itself.

The steering controls as mentioned above you'll need an adaptor. For the reversing camera you'll need to make sure the headunit has a plug for it in the back. You may also need to purchase a longer cable between the reversing camera and headunit. If you are doing it yourself just take power from the reverse light easier then the gears.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. Do you know whether the Axxess Aswc-1 or PAC SWI-RC steering wheel adapters will be compatible with my Lancer or does it depend on the head unit I purchase? Also one more question, my Lancer already has Bluetooth built in would I be able to still use it or would I just use the Bluetooth on the head unit?

Thank you for the informative post Jay! :)

Mate look into the Metra Axxess Steering Wheel Adaptor/Interface as most people prefer it over the PAC SWI as it auto-detects the configuration so it works as soon as you connect it. Plus the buttons are programmable if you want to remap them. Iv r also had people say there's a lot less lag compared to the PAC unit. As for wiring.

Bluetooth is part of stock headunit as far as I know so you need to have a new head unit that is bluetooth ready if you plan on keeping it. Look into aftermarket bluetooth kits they have more features.
