Qld: about to buy a vrx & new here :)

Postby Just1more » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:25 pm

Hi everyone,

I stumbled across these forums the other day before test driving some lancers, and I have already spent far too many hours reading through all the informative posts - great community you have here!!

I'm ready to buy a my11 vrx, keen to get it this week as my local Mitsuishi dealer has the colour I love in stock...

They offered it to me for 30,800 (auto) but I am keen to get the price down and get a few things thrown in if I can. Any tips? I haven't bought a car for 14 years and haven't even owned one for 8!

Cheers :)

I can see myself living on 2 min noodles if I get addicted to mods ;)

Here are a few strategies I used when I shopped around for my lancer:

1. Try go to as many dealerships as possible to obtain a price and use these prices against each dealership. Even lie about prices that each dealer gives you in the hope to reduce prices.

2. Really get to the know the car your purchasing eg. features, specifications, accessories. I find that a lot of the time, car salesman try to intimidate buyers by overloading them with information and they also jack up prices in areas where they think the buyer has a lack of knowledge in. So if you really know your stuff, you can reverse the tables a bit and intimidate the salesman so they think "Crap, this guy really knows his stuff, I can't really trick him by jacking up the price or misleading him in this area". I find dealing with car salesman to be a really big mindgame haha.

3. Try not to mention anything about additional accessories until you think you've really got to the rock bottom price for the car itself. That way you know that the salesperson hasn't cheated you by saying they've "thrown stuff in for free" when they've actually just given you a higher price.

4. Be prepared to walk away and out the door. Once again, I think this is all mind games. When I was purchasing my lancer there were 2 occasions where I walked out the door and the salesperson came out chasing me to ask me to go back inside to renegotiate when they had initially said "they couldn't go any lower in price".

I hope these tips helped a bit! All the best for buying your car and I hope to see you around the forum soon in your new effect grey lancer!

Welcome to the club Lins.

have you looked at the Aspire model. They are only a little bit more then the VRX auto and they have leather interior, MMCS, Hid headlights and some chrome features.

If you want a good price then try several dealers, have cash ready and stand your ground. Also tell the dealer you are looking at other manufacture cars like Mazda and Toyota. Tell then you are there to buy not look.

Some times it takes a lot of work comparing prices to get some discount. Remember to check whether you are getting a year 10 or 11 plate car. A car built in 2010 is now 1 year old.

Best of luck and let us know how you go and show us the pictures when you get it.

Also look at Kimmy's car. That is truly a female's car.

Hi Lins.

Our Sponsor in Victoria PMR Preston Motors Ralliart is advertising VRX Auto for $33960 Drive Away.

So $30800 is a good price assuming it's a Drive Away Price.
Also as Aspir3 mentioned, look at an Aspire:

The Aspire is only $1535 dearer than a VRX Auto.

For an extra $1535 you get:
Full VRX Engine & Suspension Specs.
+ Leather Interior
+ HID Main HeadLamps
+ Adaptive Control Steering Lights
+ Chrome Side Accent Trimming
+ Full Chrome Front Grille (top & bottom)
+ MMCS Sat Nav
+ Full Rockford Fosgate Sound System
NO HUGE BOOT-LID SPOILER OBSTRUCTING YOUR REAR VIEW VISION

Price-Up all these Extras as Options and you will amass over $7K

It's "Your Choice"

You can get it down lower than 30k.

I bought mine 2 weeks ago for 27500k. It was a MY11 VRX auto in red.

Although they said they would have it in 5 days and it's still not here... I contacted them and they do not know when it will arrive!

Well I bought an Aspire this afternoon, thanks Ray for your negotiating tips, I am pretty happy with my deal of 30K :)

I got floor mats, lock nuts, bonnet protector, boot liner, front windows tinted, rear sensor for a few hundred.

I let myself get sucker punched with the paint and interior protection though... Am embarrassed about how much I paid for it lol.

Got a quote for a rear air dam ($799), alloy fuel cover ($400), and front floor lighting (something crazy about $500) so I passed on all of them lol.

So excited!!!!
